About Wired Math
Introduction:
WiredMath.ca is a free math website with games, lessons, challenges and enrichment created for middle or junior high school grade 7, grade 8, grade 9, and grade 10 students, teachers, parents and tutors. Many of the exercises increase enjoyment, confidence and ability in mathematics and are good for homework and test preparation. The exercises can also be used for enrichment with students in grades 4, 5 and 6.
Mathematics teachers everywhere will find similar core topics that are covered in each required course. The expectations for each lesson are taken from the grade 7, 8, 9, and 10 Ontario Mathematics Curriculum.
The easy-to-use format is suitable for students who want to improve their mathematical skills and problem solving abilities through online games, drills and exercises. Students can review a topic through the completion of exercises or additional questions, and those interested in problem solving will find many challenging and enrichment problems. There are questions for everyone. However many of the problems near the end of each exercise are not routine and will require some degree of independence, judgment, originality and creativity to solve. It is suggested that the teacher does not step in to do the work for the students, instead letting the students ponder the problem and explore and discuss mathematical relationships while solving these problems. The answers for all exercises and full solutions for challenges and extension problems are provided.
The ‘Did You Know’ and ‘A Slice of History’ boxes in each exercise add knowledge, variety and interest for the student.
